I have a dream!
I want to play all the instruments.
Progress Report: May 4, 2024
The Oboe. One of the most challenging instruments if one does not understand how it works.
The sound of the oboe is one of my favorites. It sounds like an exotic flute of the Middle East or an unusual bird. People who master this instrument can play very charming music with vibrato. One of my goals to be able to hypnotize audiences and make them dance like snakes.
It plays like a flute, but it requires more control of the air flow. I think of my mouth as a bellow with pressurize air, but instead of pushing the air, I let it escape like a tiny hole in a flat tire. If one tries to push the air, the head and lungs can abruptly explode causing to permanent brain damage and severe breathing problems. (Just kidding.)
The Accordion. One of the happiest instruments especially after drinking a gallon of unfermented grape wine.
Happy, happy sound. The accordion is like a portable piano that can play alone or with other instruments. I compare it with a gallon of highly flamable fuel as soon as it comes in contact with a party, but without the stinky odor of gasoline.
I want to play accordion and become the spark that lights the worship service and invites people to join in praises. Such place will be like heaven on earth.
The Trumpet. Your parents would appreciate practicing at church rather than at home.
The sound of the trumpet is powerful. I find very intersting that trumpets are played with three fingers, the mouth and the tongue. The mouth changes pitch as well as the fingers. The tongue leads the rhythm.
The first time that I tried to play trumpet in a highly conservative church, someone said: Is that a trumpet? But it was not the words, but rather the face of the person what conveyed the message. Are you going to play that annoying trumpet in church?
The Trombone. Your Church has become a zoo; and a wild elephant is in the sanctuary.
People call it a brass instrument, but this one is made of plastic. The cost was cheap and I like that it has a slide so it can play glissando like my string instruments (violin, viola, cello) It requires more air control than the trumpet and that is one of the reason why it seems that I made more progress in the trumpet.
If your mommy and daddy do not like the idea of buying you a trumpet, a trombone will be a definitely no-no alternative.
The Saxophone. You are a cool guy.
The saxophone plays similar to a flute on its fingering. My only problem is to control the squeak. If your lips are not resting firm against the reed, your reed is going to make a terrible loud and annoying sound that will destroy your melody and damage your eardrum causing permanent ear loss (Just kidding).
I wish I could practice more often, but if you live in an appartment, saxophones are a no-no instrument for learning.
The Violoncello alias Cello only allows playing beautiful music.
Any bow instrument can sound sweet and mellow. The cello is a good instrument for people with big hands and fat fingers.
I like the sound of this instrument but my hands suffer a little bit of torture when playing incorrectly. Always stop when practicing and shake hands and arms to ensure that the body is relax and stress is not building in your muscles. A bad position can easily ruin your beautiful notes.
